What are the typical characteristics of a 'Yummy Mummy'?

Is it the definition of someone who has had children and who then within ten minutes of giving birth miraculously reverts to their original sylph-like physique.

If this is the case then the person in question almost certainly doesn't actually look after their own children. They are either an overpaid celebrity - popsinger - film star or the trophy wife of an extremely rich benefactor and have no experience or concept of actually looking after their own, or their adopted, offspring.

They will invest huge amounts of money in personal trainers, botox, surgically enhanced figures, a veritable army of nannies, domestic help, au pairs, and then farm the offspring out to pre-school, play school, boarding school or any other establishment that will allow them to avoid the more time consuming and less palatable rituals of childcare.

The most demanding chore for a Yummy Mummy is remembering the bizarre and ridiculous names that she inflicted on her rarely seen and hugely spoilt infants.
It is a significant result if she can actually recognise them on the odd occasions that she sees them.

'Yummy Mummies' are like a lot of other celebrity myths. An impossible and unrealistic lifestyle, that on closer inspection is a total fiction. The phrase and the reality are so far removed from each other, and so utterly unobtainable for the averageparent, that this creates yet another source of unreasonable pressure on normal mothers.

Real mums don't spend most of their time on improving themselves.

For one thing, they can rarely afford to, and secondly, they simply don't have the time.

The people in question may consider themselves as 'yummy' in a superficial and facile way.

But 'Mummy' they most certainly are not.
