Because we're worth it

When do you think would be a good time to stop killing each other and to get round a table to discuss issues?

How many lives and limbs must be sacrificed before people in power decide that a purpose has been justifiably served, and that an objective has been achieved?

Does the General or the Governing body, or the Prime Minister or the Dictator or the President actually stop to consider the number of casualties caused by his decision to send another regiment of 'cannon fodder' into the slaughter house they like to, somewhat euphemistically, call the 'theatre'. More to the point, does he care?

Why is it that statues of men with missing limbs, or blind, or institutionalised frontline trauma victims, are not erected. Why does the person responsible for the decision to sacrifice peoples lives get the recognition? Why not have rows and rows of bronze corpses, each with their specific names. It isn't the Prime Minister or the King or Queen or the Dictator with his little red book or the President or the General sitting in relative safety, behind the lines that takes the bullet or the shrapnel, so why does the soldier not get the recognition he deserves in the form of a statue in his honour?

Maybe if this were the case, it would act as a reminder to those that follow, the true cost of going to war. Why do we glorify killing as an heroic act but never really stop to consider the consequences?

Perhaps we are missing the point here.

If the population of this planet goes on expanding in the way that it has, and there seems to be no reason to assume that it won't.

Then the cheapest, single most abundant, most dispensable commodity available to the war mongers, is - you and me!

Maybe thats what we should be talking about?
