No wonder the policeman is laughing, they just got away with murder!
On the 15th April 1989 Liverpool Football Club were due to play Nottingham Forest in the semi finals of the FA Cup at a neutral ground, Hillsborough.
Just before the game commenced thousands of Liverpool fans were directed into the Leppings Lane end of the stadium, by police, into enclosures that were already extremely packed.
Because of the fans desire to see the start of the game the ensuing crush, created by the mismanagement of the eager crowds, resulted in a disaster unprecedented in modern football in the UK.
96 people were literally crushed to death and many more were badly injured.
Initially, during media interviews, the police management blamed the disaster on drunken Liverpool fans running amok and then, later, on criminal gangs of pickpockets creating panic.
Despite stories to the contrary in the Sun newspaper, subsequent evidence proved, beyond doubt, that the horrendous circumstances were brought about, purely and simply, through the incompetence, negligence and complacency of the police hierarchy who were present on the match day.
Because of their inaction 96 people perished, and, as yet, not one officer has been investigated and held accountable for their negligent actions, despite the constant efforts to blame the fans.
Even now, after all this time, one might be forgiven for assuming that this was all just an horrific tragedy that had no real culprits, such is the unwillingness of the authorities to properly investigate this catastrophe.
People would have you believe that the UK has the most transparent and untainted justice system in the world. Think again.
No wonder the policeman is laughing, he's just got away with murder!
