It comes as something of a revelation to discover that in the rarefied atmosphere of almost all religious faiths, there exists virtually no place for women.
It is shocking to discover that, even now, in this so called age of enlightenment, fifty percent of the world's population are considered second class citizens.
Nowhere is this more obvious than in the numerous religious orders throughout the world.
It matters not how much they stress equality. The evidence is there for all to see. There exists not one religious faith which is, or has ever been, lead by a women.
In most religious orders women are not just ignored but positively discriminated against, and in more extreme cases, considered an actual liability. If this was to occur within the western commercial world there would be, and justifiably so, significant repercussions, not least, financially.
That it occurs and is accepted, within groups of people who profess to practice restraint and consideration for all people is, to put it mildly, both bewildering and hypocritical.
Virtually all of our so called tolerant religions would, in truth, be destroyed if they were ever obliged to give women equal status.
Far from being understanding and enlightened, it eloquently demonstrates exactly how bigoted and shortsighted participants in religious organisations actually are.
No surprise there, then!
